"Honaunau Hammerheads"

This painting was inspired by a remarkable encounter with five Scalloped Hammerheads. Gorgeous creatures, they were actively cruising the reef, apparently unconcerned by swimmers above.

Near the end of this encounter one swam up the reef toward me, cocked his long head and gave me a good look. In the 10 years I have been swimming at Honaunau this is the first opportunity I’ve had to experience these handsome sharks.
